Roberto, a drummer in a rock band, keeps receiving weird phone calls and being followed by a mysterious man. One night he manages to catch up with his persecutor and tries to get him to talk but in the ensuing struggle he accidentally stabs him. He runs away, but he understands his troubles have just begun when the following day he receives an envelope with photos of him killing the man. Someone is killing all his friends and trying to frame him for the murders...。中年演员朱白岸来到与妻子初识的小岛，想寻求与妻子美好的回忆。一来到岛上就遇到渔民们信仰的佛头被偷窃事件，岛上人心惶惶，在追查佛头失窃的事情。朱白岸在这座岛上分别邂逅了三个女人，每一个都与他有着千丝万缕的关系，但最后他都用奇特的手法将她们杀死，随后自杀。 而朱白岸来到这座海岛的原因，或者说，他和妻子的经历给予他关于人生的觉悟，也慢慢浮出水面。在他自杀几周后，村民在海里打捞起朱白岸和丢失的佛头......诗句“谁家玉笛暗飞声，散入春风满洛城”贯穿全片，在诗人的想象中，笛声飞遍洛阳，传遍传承，这在片中似乎也在暗示着什么。原来，这关于爱的相逢和杀戮，不过是朱白岸的一场大梦。身外身，梦中梦正是本片的基调，现实与梦境到底哪个更真实是本片探讨的问题根源。。
